About Madame Hanae Mori

Madame Hanae Mori is Japan's most internationally renowned female fashion designer. She is the first Japanese woman to exhibit her collections on the runways of New York and Paris and is the first Asian designer to be admitted to France's haute couture club. When Hanae Mori opened her one-woman clothing boutique in Tokyo in 1951, she was the first woman to do so. By the 1990s, her clothing business grew to $500 million in global sales. In 2006, TIME Magazine honored Hanae Mori in its "60 Years Of Asian Heroes" edition.

Hanae Mori has been awarded the Legion of Honor medal by the President of France and the Order of Culture medal by the Emperor of Japan. Her clients include Princess Grace of Monaco and Crown Princess Masako of Japan, whose wedding dress she created.
The fragrance, Butterfly, was named for Madame Hanae Mori.
